We often stumble upon this not-so-important question (at least to some), “What is the difference between Titanium Gr.5 (Ti6Al4V) & Titanium Gr.5 ELI (Ti6Al4V ELI)?”
It is difficult to note any difference in the test reports between these Titanium grades. The difference though subtle, its impact is too good to be ignored.
Ti6Al4V ELI is one of the most widely used titanium alloys for medical applications. It is certified to ASTM F136 and is commonly known as implant grade 6-4 Titanium. The properties such as biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, high strength, and toughness make it suitable for implants and other medical devices.
The main difference between Ti6Al4V ELI (Grade 23) and Ti6Al4V (Grade 5) is in the content of Interstitial elements. For Ti6Al4V ELI, the maximum oxygen and iron content is lowered to 0.13% and 0.25%. It gives the material improved fracture toughness and fatigue strength which is an ideal requirement for implant-grade material.
We stock Ti6Al4V ELI Sheets & Bars for medical applications. If you are in the implants manufacturing business, we have the raw materials that will suit your requirements. You can email your inquiry to info@horizontitanium.com.
